The pandemic has had significant effects on our back health. As a Physiotherapist here are my observations:
- Increased Back Pain : I have noticed an increase in cases of chronic back pain and discomfort.
- Decreased physical activity : The closure of gyms and the decline in social interactions have limited opportunities to move.
- Impact on posture : Prolonged sitting work habits have aggravated postural problems in many clients.
Why did this happen?
The reasons are clear:
- Gym Closures : Less access to equipment and workout routines.
- Lack of social interaction : Decreased motivation to move in the absence of social support.
- More sedentary lifestyle : More time spent sitting in front of a screen, less stress on muscles and joints.
What can you do to relieve back pain and encourage activity?
Faced with the increase in back problems, migraines and lack of physical activity, I designed BackRelief : an innovative prototype to improve daily sitting posture and combat a sedentary lifestyle. This device aims to:
- Correct sitting posture : By helping the spine regain its natural curvature, essential for good load distribution and reducing tension.
- Encourage movement : Short, specific 2-minute exercises every hour maximize the benefits of the prototype to reduce discomfort and pain.
